IELTS Writing - Sample Letter 1

You heard that a park near your house would be closed. Write a letter to the local council. In your letter, you should:

- tell how you heard about the news.
- complain about some possible effect of closing the park.
- suggest some alternatives

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the announcement that the park near my house would be closed. I am one of the residents living on Tran Phu Street. I have known the news on the local broadcast and I would like to receive your explanation.

In my way of thinking, this park is a good place for children as well as adults to get fresh air. If you close this park, where will the children in this area go for entertainment? Moreover, should the old people do morning exercises, they can’t find out any better places than this park.

I wonder whether a new supermarket will be built here. It can annoy the residents living here because of noise, pollution or even crimes.

I am impressed with your explanation that you are eager to improve our standards of living. However, my desire is to maintain this peaceful park as the best suggestion you would like to help both children and adults widen their mental lives.

I hope that you will take appropriate measures to be calm our worries.
